Australia Topographic 250K Digital Maps

The Natmap Raster 250K 2008 map (in ECW format) has been converted for easy use with OziExplorer, OziExplorerCE and OziExplorer Android.

These maps can also be used standalone on a PC computer as a map viewer is included on the DVD.

The program installation has 2 options, "Install with Map Viewer" or "Install for use with OziExplorer".  To use the maps with OziExplorerCE or OziExplorer Android it is simply a matter of copying the "Maps" folder from the DVD to the "Maps" folder on the memory card of the Android or Windows CE device.

Maps included on the DVD are :

Advantages of the OZFx3 format for use with OziExplorer, OziExplorerCE and OziExplorer Android

Smaller size - The map is the same resolution as the original but is only 1.1 GBytes in size (original is 2.82 GBytes) which allows it to fit on smaller memory cards (for OziExplorerCE and OziExplorer Android).

Faster map scrolling - The map has been converted to the OziExplorer map image format (ozfx3) so provides faster operation in OziExplorerCE and PC OziExplorer. This is particularly important in OziExplorerCE and OziExplorer Android where ecw map images are slow to read.

Improved North/South, East/West Scaling - The map has been reprojected to the Mercator map projection - this gives a more linear scale for different latitudes. The images below show a waypoint in Tasmania with a 2km proximity circle drawn around it, the image on the left is the original Natmap in the geographic map projection (Latitude/Longitude) and shows the distortion of the proximity circle. The image on the right is the map in the Mercator map projection, the proximity circle looks like a circle. Please note - the original Natmap works ok as the software knows about the distortion, its just a visual thing.

These maps will also work with any GPS mapping program that can load ECW / PNG image formats.
